Stevena is a leading ro-ro operator in Finland. The company unloads thousands of trailers from ships every month. Stevena has developed an automatic trailer identification system, which has now been complemented with an application called Gateportal for use by transport and logistics companies. With this web-based system, a truck driver picking up a loose trailer from the port can check when the trailer has been unloaded from the ship and where it has been left in the port. The driver can directly from their mobile phone see when it is appropriate to go to the port and drive directly to the correct address. The driver can also request a notification to their phone when the trailer is ready for pickup. By avoiding unnecessary drives and searches, the working environment in ports improves, emissions decrease, and time and effort are saved.
